THE BEST PIZZA SAUSAGE BALLS

THE BEST PIZZA SAUSAGE BALLS

I was intrigued by this recipe thinking it was very similar to the Jimmy Dean one that uses sausage, baking mix and cheddar cheese. Boy, was I disappointed, even after taking the other reviews about reducing the water and lack of pizzazz into account.

I think I would take the other recipe which calls for 2lbs sausage and only 1 1/2 cups of baking mix and modify it with italian seasonings and much less pizza sauce if I were making it again.

Some things I did find useful and would help address the “messiness issue”, I had to put the mixture in the fridge as I was interrupted in making them. I also used my small cookie ball scoop to get it out of the bowl and shape them onto the baking sheet. I put mine out on foil and they were rather difficult to remove once done.

Great timing. Have almost a whole box of Bisquick to use up from the trailer too. These sound delicious. I make my own ground pork sausage (different varieties but all variations on pizza style Italian sausage) so will likely use that. The creamy Thai chili dip sounds great as well. Will give it a try.

INGREDIENTS:

1 (3.5-ounce) package pepperoni
1 (8-ounce) block cream cheese, softened
1-pound ground Italian sausage
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
2 cups baking mix (like Bisquick)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded parmesan cheese (not grated)
prepared pizza sauce for dipping

INSTRUCTIONS:

Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a few sheet pans with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
Use a food processor or small food chopper to chop the pepperoni into tiny pieces.
Use a stand mixer or hand mixer to combine the cream cheese, chopped pepperoni, sausage, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Add the baking mix and mix to combine.
Add the cheese and mix to combine …
